‘Sandat’ Dance Declared as Tabanan Regency’s Mascot

Tabanan government, Bali now has a mascot with the official launch of Bungan (flower) Sandat Serasi Dance by local regent Putu Eka Wiryastuti in Tabanan City Park on Wednesday.

Eka Wiryastuti explained, Bungan Sandat Serasi was chosen as Tabanan mascot because it has a close relationship with Hindu religious rites and human life.

Based on the concept of Tri Hita Karana, the harmony and harmonious relationship among humans (pawongan), humans with the environment (palemahan) and human beings with God Almighty (parahyangan), sandat serasi in green color is related to grandeur, fragrance and beauty

“Regarded as the symbol of majesty, because in the concept of “parhyangan”, sandat flower is used for offering to God Almighty and used to decorate ‘pratima’ (symbol of God in form of small statue),” said Regent Eka.

She added, as the symbol of fragrance, in the concept of “pawongan”, sandat flower are often used in manusa yadnya (rituals about humans) for Balinese make up, which reflects kindness among humans.

While the symbol of beauty, in the concept of “palemahan”, sandat is often planted in the yard, which is a reflection of harmony with the environment.

The regent gave appreciation for the dance that performed by hundreds of students from SMP (junior high school) and SMA / SMK (Senior/vocational high school) of.

“Sandat flower has a remarkable philosophy. Besides the long-lasting fragrance, we as social beings should be useful for other people,” said the regent.

Head of Education, Youth and Sports Division of Tabanan, Putu Santika explained, the purpose of staging dance and music is to develop, disseminate and utilize ‘Bungan Sandat Serasi’ dance throughout education and community as the implementation of Curriculum 2013 which is scientific based  (activities, unified, integrated and thematic)

“I hope that art process is able to present the aesthetic sense for the realization of the character building that is refine the human mind and for the sake of ritual, economic and tourism,” he said.
