BULELENG, Bali — A British tourist was killed in Bali and another seriously injured following a deadly collision between their motorbikes and a truck on the Singaraja–Seririt road, Celukbuluh village, in the early hours of Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

According to Buleleng Police spokesperson Iptu Yohana Rosalin Dias, the victim was identified as Luke Elleston, 34. He was riding a motorbike bearing license plate DK 2011 GAB, while his fellow British national, Muhammed Ali Gele Abdoullahi, 32, followed behind on a separate motorbike with plate DK 2297 UAF.

The accident occurred when the two motorcycles were traveling in the same direction as a six-wheeled truck, which was reportedly moving slowly along the road. Police believe Elleston failed to notice the reduced speed of the truck and struck its rear. Muhammed Ali, who was riding closely behind, also crashed into the same vehicle.

“Based on witness accounts, the truck was heading eastbound when the accident happened,” Dias said. “We suspect Elleston was unable to control his bike in time and hit the back of the truck. The second rider also collided shortly afterward.”

Shockingly, the truck driver did not stop after the crash and instead fled the scene, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the vehicle’s identity and whereabouts.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the location, but Elleston had suffered severe injuries, including abrasions to his limbs and a deep laceration on his thigh. He was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to Parama Sidhi General Hospital in Singaraja.

Muhammed Ali also sustained serious wounds and was referred from the same hospital to BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua in South Kuta, Badung, for more specialized care.

The case adds to the growing concerns about road safety in Bali, especially involving foreign tourists unfamiliar with local driving conditions. Police are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the identification of the truck and its driver.
