KLUNGKUNG, Bali – A Slovak tourist robbed in Nusa Penida became the latest theft case involving local accommodation staff. The victim, Lukas Baranek (30), was staying at a bungalow in Sakti Village, when he lost €400 (around Rp 7.8 million) on Sunday (October 5, 2025).
Police later identified the suspect as IKAP (18), a cleaning staff member at the same bungalow. The case was reported by the owner, I Wayan Sujana, to Nusa Penida Police.
“The victim reported that his cash went missing after leaving the room messy. When he returned from a tour, the room was already clean and tidy,” said Nusa Penida Police Chief AKP I Ketut Kesuma Jaya.
Following investigation and witness statements, police concluded that the bungalow cleaner was responsible. The suspect was arrested at his home in Banjar Angas, Klumpu Village, and the stolen money was recovered in full.
“As staff, he had access to the guest’s key. While cleaning, he took the cash from the guest’s bag,” Kesuma explained.
Police said the suspect confessed and returned the money. “Thanks to the quick response from our Criminal Unit, the suspect was arrested within a day,” Kesuma added.
