GIANYAR, Bali – Zlatan Ibrahimovi? Melukat in Bali became a talking point after the international football icon was spotted performing a traditional purification ritual at Tirta Empul Temple, Gianyar, during his vacation in Indonesia.
The serene moment occurred not because the temple was closed for a private session, but purely by coincidence. According to Gianyar Tourism Agency Head I Wayan Gede Sedana Putra, Zlatan’s visit took place early in the morning between July 31 and August 1, 2025, when rain kept most visitors away.
“Yes, I saw on his social media that Zlatan was melukat at Tirta Empul. There was no special request to the temple management because the site is open to the public,” Sedana Putra told local media.

On August 1, the former AC Milan striker shared three photos on his personal Instagram with the caption “In the moment.” The images showed him bathing under the temple’s sacred springs, washing his head, and walking down the stone steps dressed in a traditional sarong.
Following his spiritual cleansing in Bali, Zlatan continued his journey to Sumba, staying at a luxury resort. His posts drew warm welcomes from fans and public figures alike, including a greeting from Wonderful Indonesia’s official account and actor Gading Marten’s message: “Welcome to the Island of the Gods, perfect for you.”
Sedana Putra highlighted that Gianyar is actively promoting “soul healing” tourism through melukat at three main sites: Tirta Empul, Pura Mengening, and Pura Dalem Pingit Sebatu. “We hope more international visitors will experience this spiritual healing tradition,” he said.
Tirta Empul, located in Manukaya Village, Tampaksiring, is renowned for its unique Balinese architecture and sacred spring water. Non-Hindu visitors are welcome to join the purification ritual, provided they follow temple dress codes and etiquette. The best time to visit is early morning or during the full moon, when the temple is most vibrant with worshippers.
