Badung – Families and relatives of the victims of the first Bali Bombing gathered at the Ground Zero Monument on Legian Street, Kuta, Badung, on Thursday afternoon (10/12/2023). Locals and foreigners continue to come to the monument, offering prayers and placing flowers.
According to detikBali, flower arrangements from various countries adorned the monument, creating a poignant atmosphere. The largest flower arrangement was placed by the Australian Government to honor the 88 citizens who fell victim to this tragedy.
Laslay, an Australian resident, visited the Ground Zero Monument to commemorate his brother-in-law and nephew. At the time, he was in Australia when he received the heartbreaking news that they were affected by the bomb explosion while vacationing in Bali.
“His 15-year-old son survived (the Bali Bombing I),” explained the 59-year-old foreigner when approached.
The tragedy deeply saddened him. Lasley plans to lay flowers during the evening memorial event.
Not only Lasley but also Australian expatriate Zigg Niamiw and his wife, vacationing in Bali, visited the Ground Zero Monument for homage. His relative, Kingsley, who was part of an Australian football team, was a victim of Bali Bombing I.
Niamiw shared that during the incident, his relatives were vacationing in Bali with friends from Kingsley’s team. While in the Legian area, near the Ground Zero Monument, his relatives fell victim to the blast.
If circumstances permit, Niamiw and his wife routinely visit Bali every year. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, they only managed to return to Bali this year.
