JAKARTA ~ An executive at a recreation park faces possible jail time for negligence over the deadly collapse of a footbridge during Idul Fitri celebrations last month, a report said.
Eight people were killed on October 25 when a cable holding a suspension bridge at the popular Baturaden hill resort in Central Java snapped, sending more than 40 people plummeting 20 meters into a gully.
Djoko Haryanto, the lead technical officer at the park, had been officially declared a suspect in the case, meaning he would face trial for negligence, the Kompas daily quoted district police officials as saying.
Haryanto could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
Holiday resorts and recreational parks across the country are usually packed during the two-day holiday, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
