Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika urged people in the island not to littering as it is the first step in preventing flood.
“If you see trash, pick it up, do not be ignorant or even throw it into the gutter,” Pastika said while speaking at the podium of Bali Free Talk (PB3AS), in Denpasar.
According to Mangku Pastika, the cause of flooding in the city of Denpasar, Bali and especially in recent times is because of high rainfall and public awareness for the nature that is still lacking.
“I see the current rainfall is very high, but other than that a lot of garbage pile up in the gutters that led to clog so the water overflows. Therefore, I invite the community do not littering,” he said.
He added that, if the people do not want to take out the garbage clogging inside the gutters, at least do not throw garbage into it or rivers.
“Nature is angry because we impose arbitrarily, cutting down trees, pollute, do not want to plant trees, littering, and inattentive to clean the gutters,” he said.
Against floods that have occurred, Pastika urged people not to regret and blame each other.
“All of us, from me, officials at the provincial, regency / city government, village head to the head of environment, let’s be more concerned with nature,” he said.
When flood happen, Pastika said, people should not complain, but should introspect how much has been made into a clogged drain.
“Provide trash can in each building, let’s maintain the green open land and comply with existing rules, if you want a friendly nature,” he said.

Asking the people of Bali to “not litter” and even better “Do not throw rubbish down” is a joke. Only laws and fines against littering will clean this filthy island. Its residents have no respect for their own island. Constant ceremonies make no sense if you are “inviting the gods” to visit this island.
When Lee Kwan Yu of Singapore died recently, thousands lined up to pay their respects to the man who cleaned up Singapore with harsh laws against littering.
Governor Pastika, please look at this angle.
