DENPASAR ~ A group of 27 dancers and musicians left for Tokyo on Wednesday to give a week-long series of traditional performances under a cultural exchange programme.

Denpasar’s Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) and Kanda University of International Studies, in outer Tokyo, have each sent three groups of students and teachers under the programme organised by the Education Ministry.

ISI dean and delegation head I Wayan Rai said he hoped the programme would unify the people of Japan and Indonesia and help promote peace.

The ISI group will perform traditional and modern dances at Kanda University and nearby schools. On previous exchange visits to Japan, ISI groups also travelled to Malaysia and Thailand to give performances.
