DENPASAR ~ A Denpasar House of Representatives member has urged the government to do something about the defunct amusement park Taman Festival Bali in Padang Galak, Sanur, an official said.

According to the chairman of Commission B, I B Gede Udiyana, the half-finished park, which closed in 2000, is a blemish on the face of Bali’s capital city Denpasar.

Udiyana said he and fellow legislators agreed that Denpasar’s government should take control of the abandoned, derelict amusement park and turn it into a public recreation spot.

“Even though the ownership of the land isn’t totally clear, it’s better that the land be used for the public rather than left idle,” Udiyana said.

He also said a clean-up and upgrade of the park would allow unused land and buildings to be used for “space starved” residents of Denpasar.

Crocodiles living in a pond in the park have reportedly been eating each other due to lack of feed.
