BADUNG, Bali — Police have arrested a 41-year-old Australian man accused of smashing a glass billboard at a pub in Pecatu, Badung, after identifying him through CCTV footage.
The man, identified by police as JDB, was arrested at around 10am on Wednesday (September 9), a day after the incident at Gabet’s Pub Restaurant & Karaoke on Jalan Labuansait, Pecatu.
The incident occurred at around 1.25pm on Tuesday (September 8).
According to police, CCTV footage showed JDB first throwing the drink he was carrying before walking towards the front of the pub and causing a disturbance.
He then allegedly picked up a rock and threw it at the pub’s glass billboard, shattering it.
JDB subsequently left the area on a black Yamaha XMAX motorcycle.
South Kuta Police launched an investigation after the incident was reported, including inspecting the scene, questioning witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage.
Police later identified JDB and arrested him the following morning.
“During questioning, he admitted damaging the glass billboard and throwing his drink,” Denpasar Police spokesperson First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said on Thursday.
Police said JDB told investigators that he had been under stress because of family problems, which caused him to lose control of his emotions.
“The motive was stress over family problems, which caused him to lose control of his emotions,” Adi said.
JDB reportedly acknowledged that he was at fault and apologised to the management of Gabet’s Pub Restaurant & Karaoke.
Police then facilitated a settlement between JDB and the establishment’s management.
Both parties agreed to resolve the matter amicably and reached a settlement, police said.
