
Indonesia’s Sumaya celebrates with the national flag after winning silver in women’s singles teqball at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
NAGOYA, Japan — Indonesia collected five medals during the opening phase of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing one silver and four bronze medals as competition continues in Japan.
The country’s silver medal came from Sumaya in the women’s singles teqball event at Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center.
She reached the final before finishing runner-up, giving Indonesia its first silver medal of the Games.
Indonesia’s four bronze medals came from men’s teqball, men’s changquan wushu, men’s team soft tennis and the women’s 68-kilogram karate event.
Wushu athlete Seraf Naro Siregar delivered Indonesia’s first medal of the Games after finishing third in the men’s changquan event with a score of 9.720 at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall on Sunday.
Seraf finished just 0.003 points behind gold medallist Kuong Chi Hin of Macao, who scored 9.723.
As of Monday morning, Indonesia was 12th in the provisional medal standings with one silver and four bronze medals.
China led the standings with 11 gold, six silver and three bronze medals, while competition remained underway across multiple sports. China made an early surge in the standings following strong performances including several victories in swimming.
Indonesia has sent hundreds of athletes to compete across dozens of sports during the Games, with further medal opportunities still to come.
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games officially run from September 19 to October 4, featuring 469 medal events across 43 sports and athletes from 45 countries and regions.
Indonesian athletes continue competing in events including swimming, wushu, soft tennis, karate, shooting and basketball as the country looks to add to its early medal tally.
The standings remain provisional and are expected to change throughout the Games as medal events continue through October 4.
