Around 200 people were unable to depart Bali for New Zealand when their aircraft sprung a fuel leak.

The Air New Zealand plane had been due to take off on Sunday but during a pre-flight check of the aircraft, it was discovered that fuel was dripping from the Boeing 767-300.

Passengers due aboard the flight, NZ246, were put up in hotels for the night, but as Air New Zealand does not have an office in Bali, due to the seasonal nature of its flights to the island, some passengers were left confused.

An Air New Zealand spokesperson said a spare part, a fuel-access panel, was flown from New Zealand to Bali on Sunday.

The leaking aircraft was fixed and left for Auckland on Monday.
