Nearly 13,000 passengers passed through Ngurah Rai Airport during mudik ban

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded 12,896 passengers passing through the facility during the mudik ban period from May 6 to 17.

Authorities said most passengers fulfilled requirements to be classified exceptions to the ban.

“We can be certain that during the period all passengers had required documents that were checked by aviation security, the COVID-19 task force, the port health authority, and the airlines,” Herry A.Y. Sikado, general manager of airport management firm PT Angkasa Pura I, said.

Herry said 30 passengers did not fulfill the requirements and were thus stopped from traveling during the ban period, explaining that only those with urgent matters are allowed to continue their journey, including expecting mothers, visiting sick or deceased family members, and work travel.

Airport officials said that the largest number of incoming travelers ?— 1,012 people ?— arrived on May 12, while the largest number of departing passengers ?— 1,004 people ?— were recorded on May 16.
