The government is to ban all foreign non-governmental organisations from raising public funds in Indonesia, with a regulation in the works to make it law.
JAKARTA
The government is to ban all foreign non-governmental organisations from raising public funds in Indonesia, with a regulation in the works to make it law.
“The NGOs’ licence or permit could be revoked if they collect public funds; the regulation is now in process,” Dindin Wahyudin of the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
The matter arose after a foreign NGO, Greenpeace Southeast Asia, collected funds through its representative in Indonesia and placed the money in a foreign bank account.
Greenpeace Southeast Asia had reported its financial results in two Indonesian newspapers, saying it had received Rp1.2 billion in 2009 and Rp1.7 billion in 2010.
