BADUNG, Bali — A Swiss tourist suffered a broken leg after falling into a roadside drain in Bali’s popular Seminyak area on Friday night, prompting a 45-minute rescue operation by firefighters.

The 50-year-old man, identified only as Robert, fell into the concrete drain near Grand Seminyak Hotel on Sunset Road at around 9.50pm, according to the Badung Fire and Rescue Department.

Unable to climb out because of his injuries, Robert remained trapped until rescue crews arrived at the scene. The operation, led by commander Dedi Saputra, took about 45 minutes to complete.

Authorities said the emergency call came from a 31-year-old Grab driver identified as Rian, who spotted the injured tourist and contacted emergency services.

Footage released by the fire department showed firefighters working together to lift Robert from the narrow concrete drain before handing him over for medical treatment.

Officials have not disclosed how the tourist fell into the drain or whether any environmental factors contributed to the incident.

The rescue highlighted the role of Bali’s emergency services in responding to accidents involving both residents and foreign visitors across the island’s busiest tourist areas.
