The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Sunday has officially asked for the German Embassy in Jakarta to clarify about a visit conducted by one of its representatives to the headquarters of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) on December 18.
The government’s demand for clarification comes along with an official protest against the visit.
“The Head of Representative of the German Embassy explained that the visit by the embassy’s staff was based on the person’s personal initiative without any official orders or knowledge from the German Embassy,” wrote the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday, December 21.
The Ministry also reported that the German Embassy has apologized and regrets that the incident had taken place without the embassy’s knowledge. They also clarified that the actions of one of its representatives does not represent the policies of the German government nor does it represent its embassy in Jakarta.
The German embassy also asserts that the visit by one of its staff members does not represent Germany’s support for the organization. It is also stated that the German government continues to support and stays committed to continue bilateral relations with Indonesia against intolerance and radicalism.
