Damaged Chute Blamed for Paraglider’s Death

DENPASAR ~ Police believe a damaged parachute may have caused the death of a 60-year-old tourist from the United States who died in a paragliding accident at Pecatu, South Kuta, on Tuesday.

Nanang Prihasmoko of South Kuta Police said the man, named as Ray Benson, may have tried to make an emergency landing on Jl. Batulesung, Pecatu. But he had died from head injuries on impact.

Police went to the scene at 4pm after nearby residents reported they had seen a body. Benson had left friends at Bukit Tebis, South Kuta, at noon to go paragliding alone.

His body was taken to Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar for autopsy.
