Clean Water Crisis Yet to be Resolved

NEGARA ~

Clean water crisis that hit three areas in Yehembang village, Jembrana has not been resolved, so that some people are still taking water from irrigation canals.

“We’ve been trying to take water from reservoirs owned by water companies, but since the flow only in a short time, it is not enough for all people,” said Dwijana, a resident on Monday.

For people who did not get water in the tank, according to him, they had to take water from irrigation canals for washing, bathing and cooking.

“Taking water from reservoirs or irrigation channels, the distance is equally distant from our home. But because of our need, we still do it,” he said.

To get the water, they must take a winding and steep terrain, used a large bucket and various  water containers.

Made Sudar, a person who first complained about the water crisis said, using water from the irrigation channel for cooking was actually very risky for their health.

“The water could be polluted from agricultural chemical drugs which are dangerous to humans. But we have no alternative,” he said.

According to him, he once contacted the state-owned water company (PDAM) Tirta Amertha Jati Jembrana, asked the PDAM to deliver clean water using tank car and people are ready to buy.

“We were waiting the car for so long, when we asked again, there was a confirmation that the tank car was not able to get into our village,” he said.

In order to get a regular supply of clean water, the residents in the district ofMendoyo hoping that their Regent, I Putu Artha soon fulfills his promise to provide artesian wells.

How can a water company own a reservoir? Water belongs to everyone & can not be owned by a corporation – who then bottle the water & sell it back to the people? Thats theft
