JAKARTA ~ A Sriwijaya Air plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Monday after one of its engines failed in mid-flight, but no one was injured, an airport official said.
The Boeing 737-200, headed from Bintan island to the capital Jakarta, was forced to land shortly after takeoff on Batam island near Singapore, chief air traffic controller Indah Irwansyah said.
“The pilot reported an engine failure while flying at 2,000 feet and requested an emergency landing,” Irwansyah said.
“There were no problems with the landing process. All 122 crew and passengers were unharmed,” he said, adding there was no damage to the plane’s body.
