GILIMANUK ~ The construction of a quay at Gilimanuk Harbor has not been completed in accordance with the original plans, an official said ths week.

A Gilimanuk official said the plans aimed for the Rp200-million (US$18,500) quay, started on December 22, 2008, to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area.

However, locals said the finished project was not properly completed, and wood used in the construction was not flat and was full of visible screws.

They also said the quayside was too low and would be submerged if the water rose.

Deputy Regent I Putu Artha agreed the construction was unsatisfactory, and said that contractors must be prepared to solve several problems and finish the project properly.

Artha said he had discussed the problem with the Education Culture and Tourism Department, which he said caused the project to suffer because of a lack of inspections.
