DENPASAR, Bali — Indonesian authorities have enlisted Interpol in the hunt for six foreign nationals accused in the abduction and killing of a Ukrainian man whose dismembered remains were discovered on Bali’s Ketewel Beach earlier this year.
Bali Police Chief Insp. Gen. Daniel Adityajaya said Monday that the six suspects have been placed on Interpol’s Red Notice list after fleeing Indonesia.
“We have issued Red Notices through Interpol,” Daniel told reporters.
Police have identified seven foreign nationals as suspects in the case. One has been arrested, while the remaining six are believed to have left the country and are now the subject of an international manhunt.
Investigators allege the 28-year-old Ukrainian, identified only by his initials IK, was abducted in Jimbaran, South Kuta, in what police describe as a premeditated crime.
Days after IK was reported missing, local residents found dismembered human remains on Ketewel Beach in Gianyar Regency on Feb. 26. DNA testing later confirmed the remains belonged to the missing Ukrainian.
The investigation traced the victim’s movements across several locations, including the alleged kidnapping site, places where he was transported and the location investigators believe was used to kill him before his body was dismembered and discarded.
Authorities have seized several pieces of evidence, including a car, a motorcycle, CCTV footage and GPS devices believed to be linked to the crime.
The investigation remains ongoing as Bali Police, the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division and Interpol continue efforts to locate and arrest the six fugitives.
