Quake Hits off Sumatra

JAKARTA ~ A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Sumatra on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

The quake hit at 11:06pm 210 kilometers southwest of Bandar Lampung on the island’s southern coast, at a depth of 35 kilometers, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii did not issue an alert for the region.
