NUSA PENIDA, Bali — A 54-year-old British national died after drowning while swimming at Crystal Bay in Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 13, 2026).

The victim, identified as Archibald Frederick Taylor, was visiting Nusa Penida with a group of family members, Klungkung Police spokesperson Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa said on Monday.

According to police, Taylor and his family arrived at Crystal Bay at around 2:30 p.m. after visiting several tourist attractions, including Broken Beach and Kelingking Beach.

The driver accompanying the group had given them time to relax at the beach until around 3:30 p.m. before continuing their trip.

When it was time to regroup, however, Taylor had not returned.

The driver began searching for him and was later informed that Taylor had drowned while swimming at the beach.

Taylor was evacuated by ambulance to Griya Penida Medical for medical treatment. Medical staff later confirmed that he had died.

“Based on the medical team’s assessment, the victim died from drowning after fluid entered his lungs, resulting in cardiac arrest,” Alit said.

Police said the body was subsequently transported from Banjar Nyuh Port in Nusa Penida to Padangbai Port in Karangasem. From Padangbai, an ambulance was scheduled to take the body to Bali Mandara Hospital.

The incident comes amid continued concerns over swimming and water-related safety at Bali’s popular coastal tourism sites. Crystal Bay is one of Nusa Penida’s well-known swimming and snorkelling destinations.
