DENPASAR, Bali — A 28-year-old Nigerian national has been detained by immigration authorities in Bali after officers found he had overstayed his permitted stay by 155 days.

The man, identified by the initials MUO, was located during an immigration patrol in West Denpasar on Friday, October 23.

Denpasar Immigration Office head R. Haryo Sakti said officers had been monitoring several locations as part of routine supervision of foreign nationals when they received information about a foreigner suspected of having problems with his immigration status.

Officers then went to Jalan Bajataki in Padangsambian Kaja, where they located MUO.

A subsequent immigration database check showed that his stay permit had expired 155 days earlier.

MUO was taken to the Denpasar Immigration Office for further questioning and examination.

Immigration authorities have not yet announced whether he will be deported or face another administrative immigration sanction.

Haryo said the case formed part of continued enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring foreign nationals comply with Indonesia’s immigration rules.

He also encouraged members of the public to report suspected immigration violations involving foreign nationals.

Indonesia’s immigration authorities can impose administrative measures on foreigners who overstay, including detention, deportation and restrictions on re-entry, depending on the circumstances of each case.

The investigation into MUO’s immigration status remains ongoing.
