Bali Prepare Waste Processing Machine for Village

Bali Provincial Government will prepare a plastic waste processing machine for “Pakraman” or indigenous villages so that when it is sent to a processing plant in Tabanan it will not cause high pile.

“Environment Agency will buy machines of presses plastic waste to be shared, so huge truck is not necessary when it comes to Tabanan,” said Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika in Denpasar on Tuesday.

According to him, there is a big possibility that the pressing tool will be distributed to Pakraman so that later there is a plastic garbage collection in each village. The budget for the procurement of equipment has been allocated in 2015.

He believed in an attempt to make Bali free from plastic waste, awareness to participate is needed, in addition to law enforcement.

Pastika appreciated efforts of some districts such as Karangasem that already subsidized the purchase of plastic waste from the community, as well as Buleleng that have started similar efforts. He expected other areas could follow.

“We expect regencies / city government to be willing to save the region. In the Law on Waste is mentioned that society is entitled to a clean environment and they have rights to sue officials who do not take care of the garbage,” he said.

In addition, he said, public may submit a complaint to the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia as cleanliness is part of the public service.

He acknowledged that to make Bali free from plastic could not be done at once, however it requires efforts of gradual and implementations from great planning up to supervision.
