Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika reminded people in the area to always maintain the cleanliness and waste management as it has been the main complaint of tourists who visit the island.
“Steps have been taken to overcome the garbage and I keep reminding it. I speak today and it will be working only for a week,” Pastika said on the sidelines of the Bali Podium Free Talk (PB3AS), in Denpasar on Sunday.
He pointed out that there are three main issues complained by tourists, the waste problem, long lines at immigration and traffic congestion.
“Movement of cleanliness must be turned on in Bali because the number one complaint is garbage. I’m also asked to cleanliness of toilets,” he said.
Related to common desire to realize Bali free of plastic waste, according to Pastika it should be based on self consciousness.
By making Bali green and organic and free from chemicals, he said, and then lands in Bali will be fertile and sustainable.
“Let’s start from ourselves, the gardens to be well maintained, clean the drainage system to avoid flood, water puddle is also cleaned to avoid dengue fever,” he said.
He asserted, in principle, hygiene and health issues must be put forward by the people of Bali as the majority live from tourism sector.
