Bali Provincial Government is designing agricultural insurance program that will be started in Badung Regency as a pilot program in 2015.
“This year we start the agricultural insurance in Badung as a pilot project,” said Head of the Provincial Agriculture Office of Bali Ida Bagus Wisnuardana in Denpasar on Monday.
According to him, per hectare, farmers can pay Rp180 thousand which 80 percent will be financed from the state budget and the rest is from the regional budget and the farmers.
“So, in case of severe crop failure, droughts and floods, then the farmer will get insurance of Rp6 million per hectare,” he said.
He expected the insurance could help farmers who have agricultural problems to survive.
Potential rice field in 2013 in Bali reached about 81.165 hectares spread over nine regencies and one city. “We hope that all rice field areas of about 81 thousand hectares can be covered by insurance,” he said.
Previously Bali provincial government also has a cow insurance where farmers pay Rp120 thousand per cow per year. The program helps farmers whose cow died or disappeared, which then the government can pay Rp 6 million per cow.
