Angklung Performance at Asia-Africa Conference Eyes World Record

Mayor of Bandung city, West Java, Ridwan Kamil said an angklung performance at the 60th commemoration of the Asia-Africa Conference at Bandung in April 2015 will hopefully set a new world record.

“God willing, 20 thousand angklung players will perform at the event. I hope it will set a new world record for angklung performance,” the Mayor said here Wednesday.

Angklung is a musical instrument of the Sunda tribe in West Java. It is made of two to four bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame.

Ridwan noted that angklung performance event will be called Angklung Harmony for The World, and its theme will be Heave Your Angklung in the Guiness World of Record, Bandung the Sea of Angklung.

The event will be held at the Siliwangi Stadium on April 25, 2015. “Angklung has been a characteristic of Indonesia. We hope it will come to be recognized by the world community,” Ridwan remarked.

Meanwhile, the commemoration committee of the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung is preparing 109 stone balls representing the participants of the event.

“The balls will be part of the Asia-Africa Conference monument. Each ball will have the name of a participant engraved on it,” Ridwan explained.

The commemoration will also highlight the dangers of narcotics through a slogan, Say No To Drugs.

“It will be a great message to spread during the event,” Ridwan added.
