Water Police of Karangasem Foiled Turtle Smuggling

Water Police of Karangasem Police foiled smuggling of 51 endangered sea turtles around the sea of Kubu, east Bali.

Tens of protected green turtles were brought from Madura, East Java transported by boat with six crews.

The attempt of the smuggling was done on Wednesday and after the foil, currently stin in further investigation.

Sixth crews in the boat consists of Firdaus (30), Muharam (29), Bakri (39), Rico (28), Asan Arman (32) and Arif (23).

They  also been named as a suspect. “We do not know the owner of the turtle,” said Bakri, one of the crew.

He claimed that he was asked to transport the turtles to Bali, initially they had no trouble and got away from the water police supervision in Madura and Situbondo. But when arriving in the sea of Kubu, Karangasem suddenly part of their fuel pipe was leak.

That’s when the patrol boats of water police came after them. Then the officer got closer to the boat and asked to pull over.

But when arrived in the sea of Sukadana, Kubu, Karangasem police officer spotted and immediately asked to step aside.

On the raid towards the entire boat, police found 51 protected endangered green turtle. The turtles were in living conditions and placed on the deck of a boat.

The six actors and evidence of 51 green turtles had been kept by the officer and planned to be brought to breeding area in Benoa, Badung Regency.
