TABANAN ~ Erosion along Tabanan Regency’s coastline, which has been an issue since the 1960s, again came to officials attention last Tuesday, an official said.
According to Environmental Department official A.A. Ngr. Raka Icwara, the most serious erosion was happening along 7.5 kilometres of the Kelating Coast in Kerambitan, Tabanan.
According to Kelating residents, up to 200 meters of land along the coast has been lost in the last few years, which means those who own the land have lost money, with no compensation.
“Indeed many residents have land certificates for land that no longer exists due to erosion,” one former Kelating village head said.
Icwara said although they realised the problem was serious, they did not yet have funding to solve it.
“Although the facts have been recorded and the erosion is very serious, we have not yet been allocated funds for a solution,” he said.
