TABANAN ~ German stoves promoted to Tabanan regency residents as a fuel-efficient cooker have not been delivered to 18,000 people who registered to get one and paid a Rp50,000 (US$5) deposit within the promised six months.

The promotion was organised by the Sunray Foundation, which according to the Tabanan regency Attorney General’s Office has not provided an explanation for the delay.

A foundation spokesman, A.A. Suparta, said the foundation and the supplier would need to re-check names and addresses of people who had applied to buy the stoves before they could be delivered.

He acknowledged that the six-month timeframe promised for delivery had been too ambitious and blamed the regent for pushing too hard to have the scheme implemented.
