DENPASAR ~ A defendant flew into a rage in a Denpasar courtroom when a judge sentenced him to seven years in jail, an official said.

According to witnesses, Ahyar Safrudin, who was charged with selling his child, kicked a trashcan and abused the judge during a session last Wednesday.

They said he screamed at court officers and accused police of discriminating against him.

“Even if I am sentenced to death, I’m not scared as long as the person who took my daughter is also jailed. It is impossible that I sold my own child,” Safrudin screamed.

Safrudin was restrained by officers until he collapsed.

Prosecutor Gusti Nyoman Widan, said the sentence was lighter than the 10 years he had requested.
