Preparations Begin for Massive Besakih Ceremony

AMLAPURA ~ Preparations for a ceremony at Bali’s holiest Hindu temple, Besakih, that takes place only once every 10 years are underway, an official said this week.

Head of Besakih village Wayan Gunatra said the preparations for the month-long cleansing ceremony starting on March 25 began on Monday.

Secretary of the regent of Karangasem Komang Gde said on Wednesday that a forum was held at Besakih to form a committee to organize the preparations and the ceremony.

Komang said all Indonesian Hindus should be made aware of the ceremony, as it would be a decade before another ceremony of this size would occur.

He said the importance of the ceremony at Besakih could not be stressed enough, and he hoped all Hindus would be as enthusiastic about it as he was.
