Police Warn Against Illegal Second Marriages

DENPASAR ~ Police have warned legally married Balinese people that they risk legal action if they enter into marital arrangements with a second partner.

The warning came after Enik Sunarti (23) reported her husband, Winako Agus (30), to Denpasar Police this month for secretly marrying another woman on 31 December, 2007.

Enik, who has children with Agus, reported they had been happily married until the second woman disrupted their family life. Agus began being absent for long periods and later rarely returned home, she said.

She traced his interest to a woman named Enok who owns a beauty salon in Jl Cokroaminoto, Denpasar. She found her husband in a house with Enok and went to police to lodge a complaint.
