Pastika Supports Restoration of Disused Sand Mining Sites in Karangasem

AMLAPURA ~

Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika supported the hope of Karangasem government to conduct environmental restoration of disused sand mining or locally known as Galian C sites in that region.

“If we want a comparative study about the restoration of disused Galian C area,  no need to hold the study abroad, Bangka Belitung has been successful doing it,” he said during a simakrama (colloquium) with community Amlapura, Karangasem, Saturday.

This answered the hope of Karangasem Regent Wayan Geredeg who asked the Provincial Government to support his efforts to recover the disused of sand mining, beside their effort to eradicate poverty.

Governor even directly instructed related agencies namely Bali Provincial Environment Agency, the Forestry Service, and the Department of Horticulture to help Karangasem conduct a study to determine the most appropriate step in restoring the disused sand mining.

“We have to help Karangasem to recover the disused sand mining sites in order to produce a useful thing for the community,” said Pastika.

According to him, the restoration should receive more serious attention in order that environmental damage does not get worse, because generally after being excavated, it was abandoned and leaving holes everywhere.

On the other hand, related to the preservation of the environment, the governor also encouraged the active role of all people of Bali. “It is impossible if I do it my self, the more important is the active role of public in creating hygiene in their respective environments,” said Pastika.
