Over Dozen Accidents on Denpasar-Gilimanuk Highway

JEMBRANA ~ A total of 15 accidents were recorded last week on the 76-kilometre section of the Denpasar to Gilimanuk highway running through Jembrana regency, an official said.

Jembrana Police chief Ketut Suardana said although most accidents probably happened because of dangerous driving, the condition of the road, poor lighting and lack of road markings and signage were also to blame.

Suardana said he hoped the regional government would take steps to make the road safer by maximizing patrols on the road and increasing the quality of the asphalting and markings.

“Supervision must be increased, especially for overloaded trucks,” he said.

In response to Suardana’s comments, head of Jembrana Information Department Komang Wiasa said more cooperation between police and officials was necessary to solve the problem.
