DENPASAR ~ A lawar-making competition was held on Tuesday to celebrate, in advance, the 63rd anniversary of Radio Republic Indonesia (RRI) on September 11th.
“A ngelawar contest is one of many ways to increase the solidarity and integrity of RRI Denpasar staff,†a judge for the contest, DR. Nyoman Budiana, said while tallying the scores at Swara Prayagapuja Temple.
The criteria of the traditional Balinese pork dish contest included the shape of Ramasan (slices of pork), the taste and the presentation.
The winner of the contest was the news department, followed by the broadcast department and the sound technicians.
Budiana said the making of lawar was part of every religious ceremony in Bali and he hoped there would be ngelawar contests at future Bali Arts Festivals.
Head of RRI Denpasar I Gusti Bagus Sudhiyatamaka Sugriwa said that ngelawar and other Balinese traditional food contests were not only about the winners but were important for the love and longevity of traditional foods.
