BADUNG, Bali — A 44-year-old man has been arrested over the alleged sexual assault and robbery of a Polish tourist in Bali after police traced him through CCTV footage.
According to a detikBali report citing Badung Police, the suspect, identified only by the initial T, allegedly posed as a motorcycle taxi driver to approach the 27-year-old tourist after she left a nightlife venue in the early hours of October 3.
Police said the woman accepted a ride on the man’s motorcycle at around 2 a.m. During the journey, he allegedly stopped near a bushy area, pushed her face-down onto the ground, restrained her and took her iPhone 17 Pro.
Badung Police criminal investigation chief AKP Nur Habib Auliya said officers reviewed CCTV footage around the area and identified characteristics matching the suspect. Police arrested T on October 10 and seized a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle, a black jacket and a black helmet believed to have been used during the incident.
The arrest was publicly announced on October 21.
Investigators also linked T to a separate burglary reported in March at a villa in Padonan, Tibubeneng, North Kuta, where an Australian tourist had been staying.
Police said the Australian guest returned from a massage to find the villa’s front door damaged and a bedroom door forced open. A mobile phone, a 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 2-terabyte hard drive were reported missing.
Investigators allege that T later sold the stolen phone for Rp150,000 to a man identified as KN, who works as a driver. Police said the phone has since been recovered and KN was also taken into custody.
The allegations against T have not been proven in court. Police are continuing their investigation into both cases.
