Indoraya Employees Rehired After Strike

DENPASAR ~ Thousands of striking employees of Animale-brand garment firm PT Mitra Garment Indoraya were back at work this week following a meeting with management last Tuesday and Wednesday, a representative for the company said.

Head of the Indonesian Labor National Front (FNBI) Ihsan Tontowi said that all of the employees on strike had been rehired and labor problems were resolved.

“We will still ask for better conditions for the workers, but for now are problems are finished,” he said.

One demand the workers had was a rise in salary from Rp40 to Rp120 rupiah per minute.

The talks resulted in the company agreeing to increase salaries to Rp90 (0.004 to 0.013 US cents) per minute.

Chief of Commission D of the Denpasar Legislature Ketut Ceteg Rurung said he put a lot of time and effort into the case and was happy with the outcome.
