DENPASAR – Indonesian customs officers detained an Indian national after discovering more than 10 kilograms of suspected cannabis hidden inside two suitcases at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

The 28-year-old man, identified by his initials AR, arrived on Scoot flight TR280 from Singapore on Monday, Aug. 3. During routine baggage screening, customs officers flagged his luggage after an X-ray scan revealed suspicious images, prompting a detailed inspection.

The search uncovered 100 packages of greenish-brown plant material suspected to be cannabis with a combined net weight of 10.11 kilograms.

Officers found 62 packages weighing 6.275 kilograms net inside one suitcase and another 38 packages weighing 3.835 kilograms net inside the second.

During questioning, the suspect told investigators he had obtained the drugs in Thailand before travelling to Bali via Singapore.

Customs officers later handed the suspect and the seized evidence over to the Narcotics Unit of the Ngurah Rai Airport Police for further investigation.

Ngurah Rai Airport Police spokesperson I Gede Suka Artana said he was still checking the case with investigators and declined to provide further details.

Police are continuing to investigate the origin of the suspected drugs and whether the seizure is linked to a broader cross-border trafficking network.
