DENPASAR ~ Local residents have complained that CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras installed in the Sanur area in order to increase the quality of government security services are being neglected, an official said.
According to people’s representative and Denpasar legislator I. B Gede Udiyana, only one out of 18 cameras installed is still working.
Last Sunday Udiyana said it seemed the government was making a “half-hearted” attempt at keeping residents and tourists safe, and residents were disappointed about the lack of attention to security issues in the busy tourist area.
Udiyana said he would like to see the government provide a budget for the fixing and continued maintenance of the CCTV cameras.
“When the cameras were first installed, people felt they had not been placed strategically and there had not been enough thought put into their installation,” Udiyana said.
He said he hoped the government would resume service of the CCTV cameras soon, as people were worrying tourists would be reluctant to stay in the area because they did not feel safe.
