NEGARA ~ Gilimanuk Harbor officials were put under the spotlight in discussions about a recent outbreak of rabies in Bali, an official said.

Head of the Gilimanuk Integrated Agriculture Quarantine Board I Putu Gede Widiarsa denied any wrongdoing, saying there had been a quarantine at Gilimanuk long before the recent rabies cases.

According to him, the board had refused entry to 34 dogs since the beginning of the year, because they did not have the required documents.

He also said that the board had been cooperating with police to prevent dogs, cats and monkeys from entering Bali.

“I have made a plan, which will be delivered to Jembrana Police,” he said.

He said the plan included immediately putting down any animal traveling through Gilimanuk that was suspected of being infected with the deadly virus.
