BADUNG, Bali – Police are investigating a fight involving foreign tourists at Batu Bolong Beach in Canggu after footage of the altercation went viral on social media, prompting officers to launch an investigation despite no formal complaint being filed.

The incident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, June 29, in the parking area of the popular beach destination in North Kuta, Badung Regency.

A team from North Kuta Police, led by Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Sukadana, later visited the scene after the video gained widespread attention online. Officers have since begun reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and gathering information to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to police, preliminary findings indicate the altercation involved two groups of foreign men—two individuals in each group—who were previously unknown to one another.

Investigators said witness statements suggest both groups had been drinking at a nearby bar before arriving at Batu Bolong Beach.

Police said the dispute allegedly began after members of both groups attempted to approach the same foreign woman, leading to a misunderstanding that escalated into a heated verbal argument.

The confrontation soon turned physical, with witnesses telling police the men exchanged punches and shoves while appearing to be under the influence of alcohol.

Several bystanders, including local residents, beachgoers and parking attendants, intervened to separate the groups before the situation escalated further.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, everyone involved had already left the area.

Police said no official complaint has been lodged in connection with the incident. Investigators are continuing to identify those involved and determine whether any criminal offences were committed.

Authorities also urged both Indonesian and foreign visitors to respect local laws and maintain public order while enjoying Bali’s tourist destinations.
