LEGIAN ~ A German subsidiary of US firm General Cable Corp. and its technology partner has won a US$100-million contract to complete a fiber optic communications project linking Indonesian islands including Bali.
The subsidiary, Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH, and its partner Fujitsu will install the first high-bandwidth submarine cable system for the islands of Kalimantan and Sulawesi, as well as Java, Bali and Lombok, according to a statement from the company this week.
The General Cable unit will receive $80 million for its part of the project, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2010.
The contract was awarded by state communications firm Telkom.
