DENPASAR ~ The Denpasar government plans to study the drainage system in the city, after recent investigations of flood-sensitive areas, a government official said.
“The drainage system will be improved as there are many areas where water overflows into the streets,” City Secretary I Nyoman Aryana said.
He said he would be asking the General Works Department and other agencies to evaluate the capacity of drainage systems in areas found to be sensitive to flooding.
“The city’s drainage systems are becoming ineffective. Denpasar should have larger canal-type drainage channels,” he said.
He said the high number of residents in the city had caused problems, including an increase in litter getting stuck in the gutters, which was the main cause of flooding.
