BULELENG, Bali — A Chinese tourist has reported an alleged sexual harassment incident in Lovina, Buleleng, after a video showing her interaction with a local man went viral on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, August 8, in Kalibukbuk Village, where the tourist was filming an outfit-check video.

In the video uploaded to Instagram by the account @aurosa_a, a local man wearing a whistle around his neck can be seen approaching the tourist.

The interaction initially appeared friendly. The man shook hands with the tourist and wished her a pleasant holiday.

According to the tourist, however, the handshake lasted longer than she expected. She said she later realised that the man’s hand had moved toward her genital area.

“Why did you shake my hand for so long? I didn’t know what you were actually trying to do. By the time I realised, it was already too late,” the tourist said in her Instagram post.

She later said she cried while returning to her accommodation and described the experience as traumatic.

Wayan Sedana signs a statement following the alleged harassment incident in Lovina.

Village Government Summons Man

The Kalibukbuk Village Government learned about the incident on Sunday, a day after it allegedly occurred, according to Kalibukbuk Village Chief I Ketut Suka.

Suka said the initial information came from local fishermen. The village government subsequently identified and summoned the man, who was identified as Wayan Sedana, also known as Nane.

“The incident happened on Saturday. We only found out on Sunday after receiving information from fishermen. On Monday, we summoned him and resolved the matter,” Suka said on Tuesday, August 11.

Suka confirmed that Sedana is a resident of Kalibukbuk and is frequently seen around the Lovina area.

“He is actually a resident of Kalibukbuk, but he used to be from Kampung Anyar. He is often seen going back and forth along the road, sometimes riding a red Scoopy,” Suka said.

According to information received by the village government from fishermen, Sedana allegedly approached the Chinese tourist after seeing visitors taking part in dolphin-watching activities.

He then reportedly walked north toward an area near Hotel Starlight, where he encountered the tourist.

Man Issues Apology

Sedana was subsequently summoned by the Kalibukbuk Village Government and appeared with local officials and police officers.

He also issued a video apology in the presence of police, expressing regret over the incident and saying he would not repeat similar conduct.

Sedana signed a written statement as part of the village-level resolution. The village government also gave him guidance and warned that stronger action could be taken if a similar incident occurred again.

His family was asked to help supervise him to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The incident has drawn attention after the video circulated widely on social media, particularly because it occurred in Lovina, one of Buleleng’s better-known tourist areas.

The case has so far been addressed at the village level, with Sedana receiving a warning and his family being asked to supervise him.
