DENPASAR ~ Bali Police have arrested and deported a Canadian man for violating his immigration papers, as police continue their island-wide crackdown on illegal workers here.

Robert Hepworth was working as general manger of two luxury tourism properties, The Dusun Villas and Kunja Villas in the upmarket Petitenget area of Seminyak, both operated by H&G Management, of which Hepworth is also one of the owners.

Police said, however, that Hepworth was working on a tourist visa, which is purely for vacation purposes and prohibits the holder from being employed here, and arrested the man last Wednesday.

He was deported to Canada on Monday morning, Bambang Purnomo of the Bali Immigration Department told The Bali Times.

“Hepworth pleaded guilty to violating Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 50, and he was subsequently deported,” he said.

The 44-year-old Canadian national was barred from entering Indonesia for at least six months, said Purnomo.

“For this minor offense, he will not be permitted to be in Indonesia for at least six months,” he said.

Contacted by The Bali Times, H&G Management declined to comment on the deportation.
