A 44-year-old British national has gone missing at Tembles Beach in Penyaringan Village, Mendoyo, Jembrana, with authorities suspecting he may have been swept away by strong currents.

The man, identified as Marcin, reportedly arrived at the beach at around 6pm on Sunday (August 30). However, his whereabouts were unknown later that evening.

His motorcycle and several personal belongings were found near the beach, raising concerns that he may have entered the water and been swept away.

“The suspicion arose because his motorcycle was still parked there, along with several of his belongings,” Dewa Putu Hendri Gunawan, coordinator of the Jembrana Search and Rescue Post, said in a written statement on Monday (August 31).

The incident was reported to the Bali Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) at around 5:55am on Monday.

Seven rescuers from the Jembrana Search and Rescue Post were deployed to Tembles Beach. They coordinated with local authorities before launching a search covering the sea, shoreline and air.

Four rescuers searched westward from the beach using a rubber boat, with the sea operation beginning at around 7:40am. Another team searched along the shoreline, while a thermal drone was deployed for the aerial search.

The initial search, however, failed to locate Marcin.

“The sea search unit searched for about one and a half hours but found no sign of him. The teams on land and the drone team also found no leads,” Hendri said.

The joint SAR team was continuing the search on Monday.
