DENPASAR ~
Bali Provincial Government will further examine the results of a preliminary study of the Local Revenue Office in collaboration with the University of Udayana and Warmadewa related to the moratorium on the growth of car in Bali.
Bali Governor Made Pastika, in Denpasar on Wednesday, said the related results of a preliminary study stated that a moratorium on the growth of vehicles on the island is worthy for various aspects (economic, juridical, sociological, and environmental).
“We need time to decide when it will be done. There should be a rule made, there must be a legal law. Could be regional regulation or governor regulation,” Pastika said.
According to him, related to the age of car that will be in the moratorium, also still requires further study because if the vehicle in Bali is getting more and more it will cause problem. “If the age of the vehicle is too old to be inefficient, emissions are also high,” he said.
Moreover, Pastika added, the community wants to make Bali clean and become green province. That governor even cannot give exact target when the moratorium will be applied prior to further study because it is bound to the quite high of pros and cons.
He asserted, through the moratorium does not mean that a new car is not sold, but it is expected that all Balinese have new car. While the license plate number can use the old one.
“This should continue to be socialized, so that people are not surprised by that policy,” he said.
