Australian tourist causes a disturbance in Seminyak.
A 44-year-old Australian national identified by police as SLP was taken to Kuta Police Station after allegedly causing a disturbance and stopping vehicles at the Jalan Kunti-Sunset Road intersection in Seminyak, Badung, Bali.
The incident happened at around 12.56 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, and was later widely shared on social media.
Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said the man was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
“The foreign national caused a disturbance in the middle of the road and was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. He also stopped vehicles travelling along the road,” Adi said on Sunday, September 6.
Videos circulating online show SLP shirtless and wearing black shorts as he stood in the middle of the road. Several people gathered around him and tried to move him towards the roadside.
A local resident then reported the incident to police. Officers subsequently took SLP to Kuta Police Station.
Adi said SLP was initially unable to remember where he was staying. After he had regained awareness, he was able to tell officers that he was staying at a hotel on Jalan Kunti.
Police later handed him over to the hotel.
Adi said no one was killed or injured in the incident.
